Break Bulk Cargo Services
As container shipping has grown in popularity, the need and uptake for break bulk cargo services has seen a decrease, however there is only a certain amount of space available within 20 foot and 40 foot containers and other intermodal container types.
This is why when moving heavy industrial machinery, and in particular when shipping vehicles or transporting agricultural equipment by sea, their is often a need to break that cargo down into smaller components, hence the term "shipping break bulk cargo."
Although our parent company Brunel Shipping mainly focuses on deep sea imports and containerisation, we at Brunel Project Cargo are specialists in movng heavy cargo and break bulk cargo by various methods (multimodal transportation) door to door.
We recently undertook a project that utlised wide load double manned vehicles to move specialist out of gauge machinery from the UK to Finland.
This was a consignment of recycling machinery that had to be delivered on an express basis by road transport to conteract downtime for a production service facility in Finland.
Road was the only option we had to transport the machinery and our specialist project cargo team organised a series of specialist 13.6 metre trailers with sliding roofs to manage the specific height of the OOG cargo.
We had a timeframe to deliver within 9 days, as each day was costing the client nearly $200,000 in lost production cost, therefore it was imperative we tracked the shipment all the way and made sure that their were no delays caused by traffic jams across Europe.
We used our own internal cargo trace and tracking software to make sure the cargo kept on the move.
If you are an importer or exporter of heavy goods then you know already that a specialist freight and project cargo company can make the difference, just like our client above, for whom we saved a total of $1.5 million by making sure the cargo got to its destination within 9 days.
